My addiction

08 June 2009

everyone is there

LOL that is at the convention centre in Brisbane! It would seem that the world is rotating around our convention centre this weekend - why not most people from the deep dark south that I have heard speak in the last 3 days are seriously wondering if it really is winter in Brisbane. Maybe this is our reward? Seeing as we miss out on those long languid evenings that the south enjoys in the summer, Maybe some of us actually do deserve something good?

Just a few piccies to share - mmm Declan's bugs? Good thing I like his bugs, although the handful of squishy, squirmy extremely LARGE caterpillars did have my skin crawling the other day. This strange voice that came from who knows where also issued that edict that they should not be resident within the house and should most certainly live OUTDOORS!

And a few kit projects that I finished this week - the folder type mini book was made from scratch, just from chip board - I love creating from scratch! The second is a board book with graduating opening cut in each of the 3 pages. So after finishing many many UFO's I am beginning a NEW and lisa only designed project this week! Something about dreams, as dreams seem to be a recurrent feature of books, movies and discussions that have been floating in and out of my world. No we are not talking about those dreams in our head at night, rather the ones that are REAL that only we can make come true.

I am the Queen!

Queen cover

Long story! but here goes - all about UFO's and I'm sure some of you have followed my myriad posts about them over the last 2 1/2 years (OMG that long!!!)

So January 2007 a group I was a member of got an email saying ok - how many UFO's do you have? We all have heaps so - lets make a list. mmm yes I foolishly did as did most other members and we all laughed at how many of these projects we had sitting around!

Next thing we knew we were given a work list - lol - I want you to finish THIS project THIS month!!!!! Now that was just down right sneaky - none of us ever really thought we would finish them, did we??

Well it did sort of put a bomb under me  I spent the next 12 months finishing at least one object or project every month, and to my shame I am still doing that - one day I will get them all done I promise!!

So the end result - well I finished more projects than anyone else (fact is I probably had more than everyone else as well!) so I won - a mini book!!!! LOL yep it has been sitting around as an UFO for over a year now! Someone will be soooo glad to see that I have finally finished it! maybe I should have just gone with the paint finish rather than the wall paper - cutting around those curves with the scalpel certainly gave the hands a work out - consequently it did get put aside 1 four or five times!

Queen page 2

strangly enough I have used it as a record of thsoe UFO's I finished back in 2007!

Stuff kal

Oh! and just to prove that I haven't been totally slack -ok so the blog front I am always slack on - however I still scrap a bit - This was another UFO and  a new one! Club scrap put out this gorgeous kit to make a kaleidoscope - soooo cool! and it's not just the kids that love it! What is it about sitting out in the sun and twirling this thing near your eye watching all the colours and beads create patterns. Maybe I still want to be a big kid??

The other was a mini book - with way too much journaling, one of the transparent albums, I kept it pretty simple as you can see - but did finally manage to use one of those sonnets mini albums, I think I bought them back in 2001?Stuff bird

OK - more UFO's to complete - maybe in 2015 I will have finished them all?? If I am lucky!!

3 years later. . . . .

Lynda

I'm so glad I have patient friends!!

Way back in ummm well I'm thinking 2006 a friend turned 40. . . .my job, to take heaps of photos and create a mini book as a pressie for her. mmmm and that was January 2006 too I believe! guess what I gave her today?? yeah not hard is it.

In some ways I think the wait was a good thing, I know as I created it it bought back so many memories that I had forgotten about the night, and as she looked through it this afternoon she had the same stuff going through her head - it was like opening a time capsule. Her daughters were amazed as you could see by the photos just how much they have grown up in those few years.

LOL at least she still loves me - I have an offer of some more work with her as a bit of extra cos I have to try and save save save as I did something very spur of the moment this week (well ok I did take a day to decide I suppose) with excessively cheap airfares appearing left right and centre - I've booked to go (with a friend) to Peru in Late september!!! Oh man memory cards and extra battery packs are on the shopping list already!! can't wait!!!

inchie winchie - ok not a spider

Inchie 1  Still working on clearing out that huge stash I have and this week I worked on some of the old Club Stamp kits - gotta love them!

This little glass frame is big enough to hold an inchie - so don't let the look of it deceive you - this is teeny tiny lol.

The only disappointment was that I thought I would manage fitting 2 in so it was double sided.Of course I can be so THICK lol. Maybe not as thick as some? I'm not sure if I should refer to it as lumpy bumpy hey Ngaire? But then thick might just sound slightly better than lumpy bumpy - I'd feel like an old mattress then lol.

So in the end I created a few inchies which I can change about depending on how I feel.

last one for the weekend!

L

See I scrapped 2 days in a row lol. I managed to get this one done at last too. Sian says she likes this one better cos it's funkier. mmmmmmmmmmm not so sure on that one. but hey! (that's queenslander speak for whatever I think)

The working week has begun and I have piles of stuff to do including cooking lots of pancakes tomorrow morning I think. Pancake day again and ummm by way of doing my bit for the school I have volunteered to help out. I wonder if they pay us in kind? lol. That could lead to rolly polly Lisa so I hope not!

So not sure when my mojo will return en force again, maybe one night, but then I might just sleep again too.

The colour green

Green 2

Just the way it falls I suppose everything is coming up green at the moment! Still working on clearing out that scrap room of mine as you can see!

The bag holds a small accordian fold mini album which is undecorated as yet. It's in the gift box and when an occasion arises I'll decorate it as a gift for someone, always easier if the book is prepared and then you just have to fill in the blanks lol.

Another chipboard mini book for a friend again I do have to add pics and some journaling cards but I need the pics first.

Lastly I bought these letters at karen's Retreat back in ummm 2004 I think and only just dragged them out last night - Sian choose the colours. I'm in the middle of decorating my L so will share that tomorrow, but guess what?? it's green too lol different shade though a little but more sedate like me (yeah right!)

creating and writing

Yes not a lot of creating going on here - a little maybe! As always work seems to get in the way! still have to earn some money I suppose until I win that lotto - NO you can't win it first I have first dibs lol.

I did create this minibook thingy (techy term there) for valentines day - sometimes I hate doing these things cos it becomes very very hard trying to create a valentines project without going way over the top. so I did try to make it humourous (not sure if I succeeded) But umm with all that red and hey you gotta have hearts don't you?? Anyway hence the title "and now for something completely valentines" a very loose Monty Python reference.

Val 1

and of course one of my favourite little picture frame charms - I think this is my last one - I wonder if 7 G's still makes them? although I have made so many over the years maybe I should move on to something new!

Val 1_1

I seem to have forgotten since I started blogging the all importance of watching what you say here too as it is such a public place. Now I haven't really said anything I don't want others to know, however I hadn't told Sian about the possibility of going to Sydney next year as yet as it is all so up in the air I didn't really want to broach it until I had at least made up my mind, which won't be until at the earliest August. She has been using the internet a bit more lately and somehow found her way onto my blog. I forget that some of her friends have scrapping mums and I think maybe one of her friends sent her the link. So last night she approached me with a tear in her eye asking what it was all about. As you can imagine this is NOT how I wanted her to find out about it - must have scared her quite a bit.

To her credit she listened pretty calmly to it all and seems ok with it for now. And even more so this morning she came to me and said - if you need to do it and it will make you happy mum then you should go. Thanks  so much for your blessing sweetheart!

It seems that I have more people around me that are worried about my happiness than I know - I should cherish that thought.

UFO's

ok we aren't talking flying saucers here that's scrapbook speak for unfinished obects!

I have to be one of the worlds worst at leaving projects sitting around almost complete! Procrastination rules here! So I am attempting to get them ALL out off my desk before I buy any more product or kits! Partly I suppose I am contemplating moving to Sydney next year for 8 months to do some study - scary scary thought! It's a long story but I'm having difficulty finding the course I am interested in anywhere else. Could be a very exciting year but at the moment I am in organisation mode getting all my ideas together and that is leading to clean up throw out, finish and pack up into as little space as possible as I will have to store all my house somewhere and the less I have to pack the better I feel.

Anyone looking for a scrapbook teacher while I am at it lol - will have some time to fill in as it is a part time course and will need to earn some bikkies to survive lol.

So this weeks UFO's?? #1 is a mini album for a friends 80th birthday - it was only in september 2007 so this is a more recent UFO (says a lot doesn't it?)

Eighty

Then I finished this wall hanging of Declan and his cousin in the UK - I did plan to send it to his cousins as part of their xmas pressie but ooops! better late than never!

Wall

So until I decide to finish some more objects I guess that's it - but there are 2 on the table right now so will hopefully be soon!

How Bizarre! or 7 Degrees of Separation - Mucking Refarkable!

How bizarre indeed! this was so funny last night! a little fairy tale I think!

Lisa has

Friend A - she lives in Sydney - little place in Australia population about 4 million

Friend B - He lives in Sydney too same small place in Australia

and until last night neither of them knew each other or realised they both knew me!

Last night

Friend A - had a birthday party

Friend B - played in a band at a birthday party!

. . . . . you can see where this is heading can't you?

So sometime late in the night through an MMS message I received I picked out something that made me realise what was going on - in all of Sydney they were at the same party! How bizarre!

So guys you know who you are - this is for you!

hope it was a great party!

15 January 2009

one step forward 2 steps back

ok a little behind I know lol!

most years I make these calendars for my mum and Bruce's mum. Bruce's mum especially likes these as she sees the kids so rarely that it's nice to have something to look at each month as the kids grow up!

So as part of my diligent finishing of UFO's I completed them last night! well it's still January isn't it? They'll get a few days out of them yet!

Some of you might remember the super size stamps I used on the front cover. You know the ones from Ma Vinci's that we all drooled over and I got them imported from the US? The ones I had to put bars on my house for, so that naughty Elizabeth didn't break in and steal them! :)

Here are the finished products with a few of my favourite LO's from the pages, including one of King bladuds pigs that I photographed in Bath last year.

So next the mini album for Lynda that she has been waiting 4 years for? or the mini album for Shirley that she has been waiting for for 2 years . . . . . . . .ummmm told you I was a step or 2 behind!
